We have some new packaging we can't wait to share with you, and this time, we've gone even more sustainable. Find out more in this article.

Here at flowersbypost.com, our passion for nature runs much further than just our lovely flowers.

We also care deeply about the environment, and that's why we are always looking for ways we can make our business more eco-friendly.

One of the key elements of a business that causes issues for the planet is logistics.

The transporting of deliveries can really build a business' carbon footprint. In fact, a third of global carbon emissions are from this industry alone.

We want to make our deliveries as sustainable as possible, and that's why we'd like to introduce our new packaging which will be used for some of our deliveries (our green boxes will still be used for larger bouquets) that is even more eco-friendly than our previous choice.

Let's take a look.

Our New Flower Delivery Packaging

We love our new packaging and have taken great care to make it just right for delivering delightful bouquets straight to your door.

Everything from the box to the wrapping inside is made from recyclable materials. Not only that, but we make sure it is tough enough to withstand long distance travel without getting damaged and that your flowers always get to you in perfect condition.

For fans of our brand, you're sure to love the packaging, which is embossed with our logo and comes with plenty of added extras.

This packaging shows that sustainability doesn't have to come at the price of style, and we can't wait to send some your way over the coming weeks and months.

5 Great Sustainability Features

Now you know what the packaging is like, let's look a little closer into what makes it such a great eco-friendly option:

Eco-Friendly manufacturing

We work with Atlas packaging, who manufacture these boxes.

There are many reasons we chose to work with this company, but one is their approach to environmentally focused manufacturing.

They adopt many sustainable practises, and their efforts have been recognised by the ISO 14001:2015 certification that they retain year on year.

It all starts from their manufacturing plant, which is built on top of a large, closed loop recycling system. This means that waste produced from their machines throughout the process is automatically captured and tightly packed ready to be used again.

The roof is also fitted with solar panels, and they have a biomass boiler, which also increases the energy efficiency of the plant.

It is Sustainably Sourced Cardboard

Another key component of a sustainable process is where your raw materials are sourced.

What you are looking for here is an FSC certification, which shows that sustainability has been at the forefront when locating the timber and other materials used during the manufacturing of their products.

Corrugated cardboard, which is what we use for our boxes, contains up to 88% recycled fibre, and is made from natural, renewable sources. It is also biodegradable and recyclable, meaning there's a lot to love about using this material.

All waste is reused, and each board is recycled and put to use many times over, making it one of the most recycled packaging materials around today.

There is (Mostly) No Plastic Involved

We avoid plastic in all forms when building our boxes. The only plastic you may find is the packaging that contains your plant food.

While there are benefits to using plastic items such as labels, bubble wrap (we do use bubble wrap to protect our plants which come in fragile pots, but this is the only case), polystyrene, and plastic wraps, the environmental downsides are too great for us to choose to use it throughout.

Our box is made from cardboard. We use paper to line and protect our plants, with string tying it, and all of our leaflets and promotions are also done on cardboard and paper, making this a really recyclable product.

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest issues facing the planet today, and we're proud to do our bit to try and eliminate its use in our logistics.

It Helps with Local Initiatives

We're heading back to Atlas now, and as mentioned earlier, they are a great choice of sustainable manufacturer.

Not only do they offer the many benefits listed above, but they also have launched their own CSR project in which they have established a schools tree planting and educational programme.

This project will help show children the importance of planting trees, and each school that takes part gets three apple trees planted that the children can watch grow.

They're well on the way to making a real difference, and the educational aspect cannot be understated, with six schools already taking part and many more on the way.

They also used corrugated cardboard to design a piece of art made to raise awareness of the Plastic Free Movement. Alongside the cardboard was recycled plastic from bottles and items picked from the ocean and this was formed into a huge bicycle to commemorate the 2018 tour of Britain.

It's Perfectly Shaped

Finally, we focused on the shape.

While many bouquets come in large boxes that may be tough to pack, we keep ours streamlined. Whether we are using our green boxes which are perfect for larger bouquets, or our new ones which are great for something a little smaller, they are always built with a good shape for deliveries in mind.

This means that we can fit many more in a delivery van and that less trips have to be made, which is a great way of reducing the carbon footprint.

We deliver our flowers in bud, so they don't take up as much room in the van and can fit snugly into one of our new boxes.

The boxes are of a rectangular shape which makes them very simple to slot together and makes fritting as many as possible into one delivery simple.
